Democrats have been calling for political violence against Donald Trump’s supporters ever since he came down the golden escalator in 2015 to deliver his speech declaring that Mexico wasn’t sending us their best. Since that day, Democrats and their supporters have been committing actual violence against Trump supporters. Remember when Antifa first started beating up women and girls in MAGA hats? That was the summer of 2015, more than a full year before we finally elected him. But lately, the violent rhetoric from the left has been ratcheted up to 11. Joe Biden and his White House flack have basically declared a new civil war against “MAGA Republicans.”
Biden declared a few days ago during a campaign speech for flailing House and Senate Democrat candidates that “the MAGA Republicans” are “semi-fascists.” He called people who didn’t vote for him an “extremist threat to our democracy.” By using the word “democracy,” obviously, Democrats really mean “only elections that we win.”
It goes without saying that even during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln never referred to people who didn’t vote for him using such venom. No White House figure has ever talked about American citizens in this fashion. We’re in uncharted waters here.
During the White House press briefing a few days later, a reporter asked Biden’s flack – Karine Jean-Pierre – whether Biden had actually meant what he said about MAGA Republicans. She quadrupled down.
Jean-Pierre responded to the question like this:
“When you are supporting an authoritarian figure, as we have seen, who is leading, currently leading, the former president, you know, and um saying and inciting the violence that you are, or wanting to take our freedoms, you know, we need to say something.”
Donald Trump is an authoritarian figure who is inciting violence and wants to take away our freedoms. Donald Trump and his supporters are fascists. Says the press secretary for the guy who just breached student loan contracts on behalf of his own voters, arrests his opponent’s political supporters, keeps January 6 election justice protesters locked up for years without being convicted of misdemeanor trespassing, sent the Justice Department after parents speaking up at school board meetings, and who just hired 87,000 new IRS agents to audit the middle class. Wait, who was the fascist in that equation?
Again, Democrats are accustomed to calling for violence against everyday people on the right. They always have been. But this is different. No person has ever demonized Americans from the White House in the manner in which Joe Biden and his flack have now done. Fascists? Calling MAGA voters fascists is tantamount to calling for violence against them.
Fascists are evil, so there’s no point in engaging in political debate with them. May as well kill them. At this point, would anyone be surprised if Antifa started assassinating Republican congressmen… and the Justice Department ignored it?
None of this is new. Hillary Clinton started calling for violence against Trump supporters in 2015, when he kept winning every poll and every debate in the Republican primary. So did former Attorney General Eric Holder, along with Barack and Michelle Obama.
Remember Maxine Waters? She told her voters that if they see a member of Trump’s cabinet out in public, they should gather a crowd and hound them out of restaurants, the gas station, or wherever else they happened to be. And Democrats did that to Trump supporters. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is literally one of the nicest people in the world (and the next Governor of Arkansas), had to get up with her family and leave a Virginia restaurant because crazed Democrats were screaming at them.
If the Democrats don’t start to tone down the violent rhetoric against Trump supporters soon, they’re going to push the country into an ugly place that we can’t come back from. We’ve been patient with them so far, but that won’t last forever. The American middle class (aka Trump’s base) is always quiet and patient, but once that breaking point is crossed, we will do that peculiar thing that the American middle class has always done. We did it in Europe twice in the 20th century and we’ve done it at other times as well. The Democrats need to stop mistaking our patience as a permanent thing, because we’re running out of it. They won’t like what happens next.
