SCOTUS Just Saved the Last Republican in New York City — Democrats Are Furious

The Supreme Court just slapped down New York Democrats in a 6-3 ruling that blocked their shameless attempt to gerrymander the last remaining Republican congressional seat out of existence in New York City. Justice Alito, writing for the majority, said the redistricting scheme amounted to “explicit race-based government action barred by the Constitution.”

Translation: you can’t just erase people’s representation because you don’t like how they vote.

Imagine being so power-hungry that one single Republican seat in the entire city of New York is too many for you. That’s where Democrats are right now. They looked at a map with dozens of blue seats and one lonely red one and said, “Nah, we need that one too.” It’s like a billionaire stealing a kid’s lemonade stand money. Technically possible, but it tells you everything about who you’re dealing with.

Here’s the background — and honestly, we don’t blame you for missing it, because it’s been a clown show from day one.

After the 2020 census, Albany drew maps so gerrymandered that even New York’s own courts threw them out. They were told to play fair. They didn’t. The new maps were still garbage — they just squeaked through the second time.

This latest scheme was the next phase of the plan. Democrats wanted to redraw the lines yet again to carve up the one district where a Republican could still win. They weren’t even subtle about it. The goal was openly discussed: eliminate GOP representation in New York City entirely.

Alito’s opinion didn’t mince words. He pointed out that the redistricting plan used racial demographics as a primary factor in drawing lines — which is flatly unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause. You can’t sort voters by race and redraw maps to get the outcome you want. That’s not democracy. That’s rigging.

The three liberal justices dissented, because of course they did. Their argument boiled down to: states should have broad authority over their own redistricting. Which sounds reasonable until you remember that “broad authority” in this case means “the authority to make sure Republicans can never win.” Funny how “states’ rights” only matter to the left when the state is doing something they like.

New York Democrats have been on a years-long mission to turn the entire state into a one-party system. They already control the governor’s mansion, the state legislature, both U.S. Senate seats, and the vast majority of House seats. But that’s not enough. They want all of it. Every last seat. Zero opposition. Zero dissent.

This ruling is a win, but let’s be honest — it’s a temporary one. Democrats will be back with another scheme. They’ll tweak the maps, find a new legal theory, and try again. That’s what they do. They don’t accept losses. They just reload.

For now, though, we’ll take the W. The last Republican in New York City gets to keep fighting. The Supreme Court reminded Albany that the Constitution still applies, even in deep blue territory. And somewhere in a back office in the state capitol, a Democratic strategist is staring at a map and grinding their teeth down to nubs.

Good. Let them grind.
