Michigan Democrat Tries to Twerk Her Way Into Congress — No, Seriously

A 32-year-old Democratic congressional candidate in Michigan named Shelby Campbell has gone viral for posting TikTok videos of herself twerking on a kitchen counter, waving marijuana flags, and posing in front of banners reading "p---y power" — and she thinks this is how you win a seat in the United States House of Representatives. The Bongino team covered her as a top story on May 21, and frankly, we're not sure whether to laugh or weep for the republic.

This is what the Democratic Party has become, folks. Forget policy papers. Forget constituent services. Just shake what your mama gave you on a Formica countertop and hope Gen Z double-taps their way to the ballot box.

Campbell is running in Michigan's 13th Congressional District — a swath of southeast Michigan covering parts of Detroit and its surrounding suburbs — where she's challenging incumbent Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar in the August 4, 2026 primary. She describes herself as a law student and United Auto Workers member. A single mom. And apparently, a content creator whose OnlyFans-style campaign videos have now racked up millions of views.

Her campaign aesthetic includes lip-syncing videos, the aforementioned twerking footage, and imagery featuring marijuana leaves. You know, the stuff James Madison had in mind when he wrote the Federalist Papers.

When the videos went mega-viral and conservative media lit her up, did Campbell apologize? Did she pivot to, say, discussing auto worker pensions or Detroit's crumbling infrastructure? Of course not. She hopped on X and wrote: "Omg I love you guys thank you keep the publicity going."

Profound stuff.

Look, we've seen unserious Democratic candidates before. We've seen the pink hats, the screaming at the sky, the "abolish ICE" crowd. But there's something uniquely perfect about a woman running for Congress whose entire platform appears to be "I twerk and I went to jail" — yes, she actually boasts about a prior arrest on her own campaign website.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side of the aisle, we're passing the biggest tax cut in American history, securing the border, and bringing manufacturing back home. But sure, tell us more about your kitchen counter choreography, Shelby.

The Democratic primary voters of Michigan's 13th District will get their say on August 4. And honestly? Part of me hopes she wins. Because nothing says "we have no ideas" quite like a party whose rising stars communicate exclusively through twerking and profanity.

The reviews, as BizPac Review noted, have been "brutal." But Shelby doesn't care. She's got millions of views. And in the modern Democratic Party, that's all the qualification you need.
