DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin just did something federal officials almost never do — he told a sitting city official exactly what he thinks of him, on camera, without flinching. His target: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the socialist who's turned the Big Apple into a sanctuary city theme park.
The words? "Mamdani is a socialist communist that I have zero respect for." Not a press release. Not a carefully worded statement reviewed by twelve lawyers. Just the truth, served cold.
Secretary Mullin didn't stop at the insult. He laid out the entire case against Mamdani's lawless approach to immigration enforcement, saying, "He's running a great city by allowing lawless activity to continue to run rampant." And honestly, that's generous — "running" implies there's a plan.
Mullin made it crystal clear that ICE isn't backing down from cities that try to play hide-and-seek with criminal aliens. "We're going to protect the homeland," he said. "We're going to go where the heart of the crime is."
That's what leadership sounds like, folks.
Meanwhile, Mamdani has been busy doing what progressive mayors do best — lighting taxpayer money on fire for causes nobody asked for. His big announcement? "My administration has made a $15 million investment in gender affirming care." Fifteen million dollars. While his city drowns in crime and illegal immigration, the mayor is prioritizing gender ideology. You genuinely cannot make this stuff up.
Mullin broke down the math that every American already knows instinctively. "98% of the American people are law abiding citizens," he said. "It's the 2% that runs rampant and destroys our cities." And where does that 2% love to set up shop? In sanctuary cities run by people like Mamdani who roll out the red carpet for them.
"We're going after the worst of the worst no matter where they're at," Mullin added. "We're going to enforce laws, not pick and choose which laws we enforce."
What a concept. Enforcing all the laws. Somebody get the Democrats a fainting couch.
And if Mamdani thought this was all talk, Border Czar Tom Homan had a little gift for him too. "You are going to see more ICE agents than you have ever seen in NYC," Homan promised. "It's coming. I just reviewed an operational plan. I'm not going to tell you exactly when."
That's not a threat. That's a weather forecast. Storm's coming, Mr. Mayor.
Mullin didn't even pretend to be diplomatic about the personal dynamic. "He and I don't get along," he said. "It's shameful." Though let's be honest — the shameful part isn't that they don't get along. The shameful part is that a socialist communist is running America's largest city and obstructing federal law enforcement while bragging about it.
We spent years watching government officials grovel and apologize when some city council progressive lectured them about being mean to illegal aliens. We watched DHS secretaries under Obama practically hand out welcome baskets at the border. Those days are over.
"Zero respect." Said to his face. On camera. No apology tour afterward.
That's not a soundbite. That's a policy statement. And it's about time.
