Republicans Move to Erase Trump's 2019 Impeachment — And Democrats Can't Do a Thing About It

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Republican of Florida, just filed a resolution to officially void the 2019 impeachment of President Donald Trump — and if you're wondering whether Democrats are having a collective meltdown over it, the answer is yes, obviously.

Remember that impeachment? The one over a phone call? The one where we were all supposed to believe that Donald Trump had committed high crimes and misdemeanors because he talked to the president of Ukraine? Good times.

Luna's resolution comes on the heels of new evidence released by the national intelligence director that confirms what every sentient conservative already knew: the allegations that Trump colluded with the Russian government were, to put it in technical terms, a giant steaming pile of nothing. The whole Russia collusion narrative — the one that consumed years of news cycles, cost taxpayers millions, and gave Adam Schiff enough camera time to fill a lifetime — was a lie. Luna herself said the collusion allegations were "a terrible lie" used to justify the entire sham proceeding.

That's exactly the question Luna is asking. Her resolution would strike the 2019 impeachment from the congressional record entirely. Not just a footnote. Not a little asterisk with an explanation. Gone. Wiped clean. As if Nancy Pelosi never did her dramatic pen-signing ceremony with those fancy souvenir pens she handed out like party favors.

Now, we all know the 2019 impeachment was political theater from day one. Democrats had been talking about impeaching Trump before he even took the oath of office. They just needed an excuse, and a routine phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was apparently good enough. Trump asked about potential corruption involving a political rival's family. Democrats called it a quid pro quo. The Senate acquitted him. End of story — or so we thought.

But here's the thing about Democrats: they never let anything go. That impeachment has been sitting on the record like a participation trophy for the resistance movement. Every time some cable news anchor wanted to remind you how "dangerous" Trump was, they'd trot it out. "He was impeached twice!" they'd say, as if repetition made it legitimate.

Well, now there's a formal effort to take that talking point away from them. And the timing couldn't be better. With the intelligence community's own findings confirming the Russia collusion hoax was exactly that — a hoax — the entire foundation of that first impeachment crumbles even further. You can't impeach a guy for supposedly pressuring Ukraine to investigate corruption when the "corruption" narrative you used to justify spying on his campaign turned out to be fabricated opposition research.

Luna's resolution is more than symbolic. It's a receipt. It's Congress formally acknowledging that the 2019 impeachment was a partisan abuse of power dressed up in constitutional clothing. Democrats weaponized the impeachment process, and now they get to watch as someone moves to officially undo their handiwork.

Will it pass? That's the million-dollar question. Republicans hold the House, and there's no shortage of members who'd love to put their name on this one. Democrats will scream about "protecting norms" and "the integrity of the process" — you know, the same process they turned into a cable news spectacle complete with dramatic readings and crying witnesses.

They impeached him over a phone call. One resolution could wipe it from history. And honestly? That's exactly what it deserves.
