Remember when we thought Eric Swalwell’s spectacular flameout was the end of the story? The guy who was literally sleeping with a Chinese spy, who racked up four sexual misconduct accusers faster than most people rack up parking tickets, who quit Congress before they could physically remove him from the building? Yeah, well, it turns out Swalwell was just the opening act.
Because his good buddy Senator Ruben Gallego is apparently next in line for the Democrat Disgrace Express. Buckle up!
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna went on CBS News this week and dropped what can only be described as the political equivalent of a grenade with the pin already pulled. Luna told the cameras that she’s been made aware of “very disturbing” allegations against Gallego, and that she’s already referred the whole mess to Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s office. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJCgDIjZsTE
So what exactly are we talking about here? According to Luna, the allegations are “sexual in nature” AND involve campaign finance violations. A woman has reportedly come forward with attorneys claiming there was “an incident” between her and the Senator. Sexual misconduct plus funny money. That’s a two-for-one special that even the Democrats’ PR machine can’t spin their way out of.
(But they’ll try. Oh, they’ll definitely try.)
Here’s the part that should have every Democrat strategist reaching for the Pepto-Bismol: Luna specifically described Gallego as being “very closely tied” to Swalwell. These two weren’t just colleagues who nodded at each other in the hallway. They were pals. Birds of a feather, as your grandmother might say — except your grandmother probably had a much nicer flock in mind. https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok/status/2044561673969611036
Think about the pattern here for a second. Swalwell gets caught up in a Chinese espionage honeypot with Fang Fang. Then he gets hit with sexual misconduct allegations from four different women. Then he resigns in disgrace. And now his close ally in the Senate is facing allegations that sound eerily similar? At what point do we stop calling these isolated incidents and start calling it a culture?
This is what the Democrat Party has become, folks. They spent years lecturing us about “believe all women” and demanding that every Republican accused of anything be drawn and quartered in the public square. They impeached a president over a phone call. They threw grandmothers in prison for praying outside abortion clinics. But when their own guys get caught with their hand in the cookie jar — or worse — suddenly it’s all “due process” and “let’s wait for the facts.”
Thune’s office has apparently confirmed the matter is under investigation. That means this isn’t just Anna Paulina Luna freelancing on cable news. The Senate leadership is taking it seriously enough to look into it, which in Washington terms means there’s enough smoke that even the fire department showed up.
Now, Gallego just won his Senate seat in Arizona in 2024 after beating Kari Lake in one of the most expensive races in the country. Democrats poured a fortune into getting him elected. They called him their future. Their rising star. The guy who was going to show that Democrats could still win in the Sun Belt.
Oops.
Luna said something else that deserves attention. She told CBS that “the other shoe is about to drop.” That’s not the kind of thing you say on national television unless you’ve got receipts. Politicians who are bluffing say things like “we’re monitoring the situation” or “questions remain.” When someone goes on camera and says the other shoe is about to drop, they’re telling you the shoe is already in the air.
We’ve seen this movie before with Swalwell. First it was one allegation. Then two. Then four. Then the resignation letter nobody proofread because he was in such a hurry to get out the door. The dominoes fell so fast that CNN couldn’t even keep up — and that’s saying something, because CNN usually has a 48-hour head start on defending Democrats.
So here we are. The Swalwell scandal has officially grown tentacles, and one of those tentacles just wrapped itself around a sitting United States Senator. The investigation is underway. The woman has lawyers. And Anna Paulina Luna is on national television telling America to stay tuned.
We’ll be watching this one very closely. Something tells us the popcorn budget is about to go up.
