Rep. Al Green of Texas filed H.Res.1486 on August 24 — articles of impeachment against President Trump. Green, a Democrat from Houston, introduced the resolution in a House where Republicans hold the majority. Which means the document had a longer walk to the shredder than it did to any committee hearing.
This is his second impeachment filing in fourteen months.
Green's previous attempt came in June 2025, when he filed impeachment articles over Trump's handling of Iranian nuclear strikes. That one went nowhere. Before that, we had the 2019 impeachment over Ukraine and the 2021 impeachment after January 6. Both ended in acquittal. Green's apparently decided the third sequel is where the franchise really takes off.
This time Green's argument centers on immigration enforcement. His press release claimed "President Trump has used ICE and CBP to suppress the First Amendment rights" of Americans. The resolution specifically invoked the cases of Renée Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen shot during an ICE operation in Minneapolis, and Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse — along with Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero.
White House spokesperson Lauren Bis didn't mince words in response: "The brave men and women of ICE and CBP put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists."
That's the core tension Green doesn't want you to notice. He's framing routine law enforcement operations as constitutional violations to generate a press release and a fundraising hook. The resolution won't get a hearing. It won't get a vote. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries hasn't even endorsed it. Green filed it alone.
Trump himself seemed to predict this kind of thing years ago. "I'm going to be impeached," he said. "They're going to impeach me. They have no idea why."
That quote ages better every cycle. The 2019 impeachment was supposed to be the one that stuck. Then 2021 was the real one. Now 2026 is apparently the charm — except the man filing it can't get his own caucus leadership to co-sign.
The pattern is worth noting. Every impeachment attempt has come with less institutional support than the last. The first had a Speaker of the House driving it. The second had a post-crisis Senate trial. This one has a single congressman from Houston and a press release.
When your political strategy is doing the same thing for the third time — after it failed the first two — that's not governance. That's a subscription renewal.
