The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has found yet another fraudulent federal program. AmeriCorps was established by Bill Clinton back in 1993. It has an annual budget of more than $1 billion a year. AmeriCorps has failed its last eight consecutive audits, so they have no idea where more than $8 billion went.

Even worse, the auditors say AmeriCorps possesses no mechanism for detecting fraud. Naturally, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has launched a lawsuit against DOGE to try to keep AmeriCorps open.

AmeriCorps has about 700 federal employees. About half of them accepted a voluntary severance package from the Trump administration. The ones who didn’t take the deal were placed on administrative leave. For all intents and purposes, AmeriCorps has been shut down.

It was established by Bill Clinton to provide volunteer opportunities for 18- to 26-year-olds. While the Peace Corps volunteers for international projects, AmeriCorps was intended for domestic volunteer projects here at home. That’s not what AmeriCorps is today, however.

The primary focus of the projects has been global warming BS and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). It hasn’t been helping communities with local volunteer projects at all. It’s just another federal slush fund for the Democrat Party to pay off their ideological allies with your tax dollars.

“AmeriCorps has a decades-long commitment to advancing racial and economic equity through national service and volunteering,” states its 2024 annual management report.

Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) chairs the House subcommittee that has oversight of AmeriCorps. He complains that the agency comes before the subcommittee year after year, always promising to implement reforms. It never happens.

“It makes no sense to expand this agency or give it more money when it continuously fails to meet basic accountability standards,” says Owens.

Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a slightly less nuanced defense of AmeriCorps at a press conference on Wednesday. He claims that by shutting yet another worthless federal fraud agency down, President Trump is telling America and California to “go f*** yourself.”

We’re not sure which political consultant told the Democrats to start dropping F-bombs all the time in public. I guess that’s what they mean when Democrats say that we need to tone down the rhetoric. Go F yourself.

Newsom says that California is now going to sue DOGE for shutting down AmeriCorps. He claims that AmeriCorps volunteers were vital to the recovery effort in Los Angeles County after he deliberately burned down Pacific Palisades in January. Yeah, those AmeriCorps volunteers were doing a GREAT job, along with everyone else in the government involved with the wildfire recovery.

Let’s do a quick check-in and see how many building permits have been issued to people trying to rebuild their homes in Pacific Palisades. Remember when President Trump paid a visit to LA County after the wildfires and embarrassed Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass? They swore up and down that people would be allowed in to clean up the debris and start rebuilding their homes.

As of April 18, more than 100 days after Newsom and Bass allowed a devastating wildfire to destroy Pacific Palisades, they have issued four building permits.

Thousands of people lost their homes because of the incompetence and willful negligence of Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, and the Democrat supermajority in charge of California’s legislature. They’ve only managed to issue FOUR building permits in 100 days.

From a bird’s-eye view, it looks like California is going to need more than some college-aged volunteers from AmeriCorps to recover from that wildfire. California is failing just fine at the wildfire response on its own. They don’t need any volunteers to help mess it up worse.

Gavin Newsom wants to keep your tax dollars flowing to a fraudulent federal agency that can’t account for what it does with any of the money. So once again, the Trump administration will have to waste its time by walking into court to defend fiscal responsibility. Is the Supreme Court going to step in at some point and put a stop to all these frivolous lawsuits?

Newsom is giving us yet another reason why he should never be allowed anywhere near the White House, where he desperately wants to live and rule over us. Instead of praising DOGE for saving the taxpayers money, Newsom is spending more taxpayer money to sue DOGE and keep the waste, fraud, and abuse going.
