The Abbott baby formula plant in Michigan that Joe Biden kept needlessly shut down for four months has flooded in a heavy spring storm. After Biden ineptly caused a baby formula shortage across the country with this same plant, that manufacturer is now offline to clean and sanitize the buildings. Again. The question now is whether Biden will speed up that process to allow the Abbott plant to reopen, or whether he will drop the ball again by making yet another disastrous decision. History suggests he’ll drop the ball again.
When the baby formula crisis began spiraling out of control last month, Biden’s FDA was finally forced to allow the Abbott plant to reopen. The plant had shut down voluntarily back in February due to a possible contamination. But after a short investigation, Abbott found there was no contamination. Biden’s FDA dragged its feet for four months, refusing to inspect the plant and not allowing it to reopen.
Since Abbott has a government monopoly contract to supply baby formula to the WIC program, this caused an obvious shortage that’s left approximately 9 million families struggling to feed their babies. Many babies have been hospitalized, because they’re being starved due to Joe Biden’s blazing incompetence.
The shortage has led to embarrassing bailouts for America, as Europe has been sending flights of extra baby formula to the US. After finally meeting with formula makers and allowing the Abbott plant to reopen last month, the Biden regime announced that things would be “back to normal” by July. People would be able to find formula on the shelves if they just held out a little longer.
And then it rained in Michigan.
Less than two weeks after the plant was finally allowed to reopen, it’s shut down again. Abbott said in a statement Wednesday night, “This will likely delay production and distribution of new product for a few weeks.”
So, now it’s looking like the formula shortage will last until sometime after Labor Day. Remember back when the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and all the news networks said, “The adults are back in charge?” This must be what it feels like to have adults in the Biden regime in charge. Runaway inflation and shortages of baby formula. Thanks, Joe Biden! Great job!
Biden can blame the unintended consequences of the weather for the crisis continuing, but it was his incompetence that got us here in the first place. The FDA could have reopened the Abbott plant in February but chose not to. You have to wonder why. Sure, the Biden regime couldn’t have predicted that weather would shut the plant down again, but that’s not the point. The plant’s closure never should have lasted this long to begin with.
And now that formula supplies are all but completely depleted, there are no stocks of formula set aside to help see the nation through this crisis.
This is happening with another sector of the economy as well, and it’s terrifying to think about it. Biden knows that his party is going to get crushed in November, and that his approval numbers are slightly lower than untreatable gonorrhea. So, to try to help his own flagging poll numbers, Biden has been draining the nation’s strategic petroleum reserves to try to halt the gas price inflation that he caused.
In a truly scary development, the Biden regime is refusing to say just how low they are willing to deplete those reserves to try to stave off inflation. Based on his track record with an essential item like baby formula, probably ZERO. And once that happens, things are going to really start to fly off the rails.
Biden has already reduced oil production by more than 8% per year since he assumed his stolen office. Once the strategic petroleum reserve is wiped out, we’ll start seeing major fuel shortages, long lines at the pump, and catastrophic inflation of fuel that drives up the cost of everything else even further. Serious countries would keep a reserve of fuel to protect against a real emergency. That’s the whole point of a strategic reserve. You set important things aside for a rainy day.
Because you never know when it’s going to rain.
