Newly declassified FBI intelligence just blew the lid off something sickening: China interfered in the 2020 election—and the FBI allegedly covered it up to protect then-Director Christopher Wray from being caught in a lie.
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released the bombshell documents on Tuesday. They’re part of his investigation into China’s suspected involvement in helping the candidate who would be more favorable to their interests—Joe Biden.
This isn’t the first time Sen. Grassley has raised red flags. Back in 2020, the FBI’s Albany field office reportedly received a tip from a confidential informant that China may have shipped “tens of thousands” of fake drivers’ licenses to be used in manufacturing pro-Biden mail-in votes. They were made to be given to Chinese-Americans and to illegal immigrants who had a separate motivation for wanting to see Joe Biden elected to office. What did Christopher Wray and the FBI do with that tip? Absolutely nothing! Instead of investigate the tip to make sure the upcoming election wouldn’t be rigged they buried it.
Now why would the FBI bury a tip that the upcoming election was being rigged by a foreign nation? Because Director Wray had already gone before Congress and made a very public claim: that there was zero evidence of voter fraud heading into the election. He told the country the 2020 election would be “the safest in history.” Walking that back would’ve made him look like a liar. And that couldn’t happen—so they made sure it didn’t.
“These records smack of political decision-making and prove the Wray-led FBI to be a deeply broken institution. Ahead of a high-stakes election happening amid an unprecedented global pandemic, the FBI turned its back on its national security mission,” Grassley said in a press release.
He didn’t stop there.
“One way or the other, intelligence must be fully investigated to determine whether it’s true, or if it’s just smoke and mirrors. Chris Wray’s FBI wasn’t looking out for the American people – it was looking to save its own image.”
According to the declassified records, FBI headquarters made a “sudden and abnormal” decision to shut down the investigation, despite evidence that the tip was credible. They never followed up—not because of lack of leads, but because they feared the truth might make Director Wray look like he wasn’t good at his job. A job that included keeping foreign nations from interfering in our elections.
One internal email from September 2020 lays it out clearly. FBI officials privately admitted that the scandal “would contradict Director Wray’s testimony.” So instead of getting to the bottom of it, they decided to let it die in a file cabinet.
Let that sink in.
Agents at the Albany field office repeatedly asked why nothing was being done. HQ kept shutting them down—with the same excuse every time: “Again, the reporting will contradict Director Wray’s testimony.”
In other words, protecting the Bureau’s image was more important than protecting the integrity of America’s elections.
One intelligence analyst at the Albany office couldn’t believe what was happening. He wrote:
“Most concerning to me, is stating the reporting would contradict with Director Wray’s testimony. I found this troubling because it implied to me that one of the reasons we aren’t putting this out is for a political reason, which goes directly against our organization’s mission to remain apolitical and simply state what we know.”
He continued:
“Likewise, at the field operational level, I do not feel it is our job to assess whether or not our intelligence aligns with the Director…My concern is that I think it gets dangerous if we cite potential political implications as reasons for not putting out our information.”
So there you have it. The FBI ignored evidence of possible Chinese interference in a U.S. presidential election—evidence that could have completely changed the public narrative—because they were worried about Christopher Wray’s ego. That’s not “apolitical.” That’s disgraceful.
At the very least, these documents prove that the FBI withheld intelligence from the American people and suppressed a credible lead involving a hostile foreign power. The fact that the name “Joe Biden” happens to be on the winning side of that equation shouldn’t be ignored.
Whether Biden himself knew about the alleged help or not is one thing. But the idea that China acted in a way that benefited him—and the FBI chose not to investigate—should outrage every voter who still cares about election integrity.
