The 5 Most Common Work From Home Scams Revealed! Find out How to Spot them and the Only True Method for Making Money Online!

I’m sure you’ve seen these before…

Make $1,000 a week stuffing envelopes!

Home Business Alert! You can earn up to $2,000 a month assembling small toys! No special skills required.

How would you like to make $500 right now doing something you enjoy from the convenience of your own home!!!

Headlines like these are certainly eye catching. Who wouldn’t want to make a bunch of money quickly and easily from the comfort of their home?

Advertisements like these are everywhere these days. They make big promises, but end up only costing you money. They’ll say anything they can to get you to send them money. Usually all you’re sent is a how to e-book that teaches you how to scam other people out of money or a list of companies that aren’t in business anymore whom you can sell your envelopes or hand held toys to. The only thing these scams are good for is wasting your time, ruining your reputation and opening you up to legal problems.

Now I’m not saying there aren’t ways you can make great money working from home. There are. The hard part is telling the difference between work from home scams and real business opportunities. Below is a guideline that will show you how to differentiate between the legitimate work at home employment opportunities and these all too common scams.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Wouldn’t it be nice to post a few links for Google and get massive checks in your mailbox every week?! Or to assemble envelopes for companies and get paid handsomely! If the job sounds so simple a third grader could do it then it is most likely a scam. Advertisements that promise work from home opportunities that are overly simplistic in nature are good for only one thing-lining the bottom of your trash can!

Look for letters that make guarantees about your satisfaction. For example: If you are not completely satisfied with this opportunity within the first 60 days you will receive a full refund! Companies that put their money where their mouth is so to speak offering full refunds can usually be trusted. I put guarantees on all of my letters. I know that there are so many internet scams out there that most people have become wary of online business opportunities like the ones I offer. It’s easier to build trust when you have someone you can see and talk to on a one-on-one basis like you can in a retail shop. It’s hard to do that online. Providing a guarantee in all of my letters helps to ease that scam stigma online companies usually face.

Scammers all use the same tell-tale signs.

Thankfully most scammers are not that smart. In fact pretty much all scammers give themselves away pretty early on in their narrative. You can tell the scammers from the legitimate make money online opportunities when they ask you for money up front for a job. Individuals who promise you a job should never require a fee to hire you. They might tell you the money is for training purposes or for materials to make an end product, in reality a legitimate employer will never charge to hire you. Never pay anybody to work. It goes the other way around.

Not all work from home opportunities that charge a fee for their products or services are scams though. Look for companies that will help you start your own business or act as your partner in an investment. These types of online opportunities always include you getting something in return for your time.

Ask yourself how they make money on the deal.

Be wary of any deal that claims they are making you this offer out of the goodness of their heart. There is no such thing as a free lunch or a no strings attached offer. If you can’t tell how the business is being rewarded, financially or otherwise, then its best to steer clear. Legitimate business opportunities will spell out for you why they are making this offer or what they hope they will get in return.

Learn the most common type of make money and work from home scams.

Everyone dreams of opportunities in which they can work part-time from home and make good money doing it. Unfortunately, scammers know this and prey on people who are looking for legitimate ways to make money online. Knowing ahead of time which are scams and which are legitimate business opportunities can save yourself heartache, time and your hard earned cash. I’ve broken down for you the top 5 most prevalent online scams below.

Work-at-Home with Google/Twitter/Facebook/Ebay

The company name changes, but the scam is the same. Essentially these scams all promise you can do a very menial, simple task that won’t require many man hours from you for a big profit. Next time you see an advertisement saying you can post comments or links promoting one of these companies and they’ll pay you, ask yourself why the company is willing to pay someone a lot of money to do something so easy. Usually the only promise these scammers make is to send you a booklet or a video on how to use these programs, but they don’t send you checks to do anything with that information.

Stuffing Envelopes

This might have been a legitimate business opportunity 30 years ago, but technological advances have completely eliminated the need for anyone to stuff envelopes manually. Printing companies have machines that do this for them now. The scam here usually involves a type of pyramid scheme in which you have to recruit other people who will pay you while you are paying the person who hired you. Essentially they make you become a scam artist yourself!

Product/Toy Assembly

This falls under the “up-front fee required” con. The scammer required you to pay a fee for materials to make an end product like hand held toys or dolls. The company then goes on to reject what you’ve assembled for them. They’ll say it wasn’t done correctly or that it doesn’t meet their specifications. No matter the reason they give, they were never going to pay you. These scammers make their money selling the kits, not the end product you assembled.

Taking Surveys

Offers to pay you to take online surveys from the comfort of your home sound great don’t they? You just answer a few questions and sit back and wait for the checks to roll in! The offer centers around the idea that the more surveys you take, the more money you will make, essentially promising you unlimited earning potential. Most often you’ll send them money and all they’ll send you back is a bunch of outdated information about companies that conducted surveys at one time or another. Most of the times these companies don’t even know they are on any list and haven’t had legitimate job openings like these open for a long time.

Payment Processor

You may also see job titles like “money transfer agent” or “payment collection agent”. This scam is very dangerous because not only will you lose any money you paid to these people but you could also be held criminally liable! The scam typically goes like this: A person emails you about a job you can do from home in which you’ll accept “payments” from customers in other countries. They’ll tell you that banks in their country work too slow and take too many fees out. They’ll then ask you to wire a portion of the money to them using Western Union or MoneyGram. You’ll discover too late that the “payments” you received are actually stolen or were obtained illegally. Essentially you have just laundered money for a scammer! In the end you could be on the hook for multiple criminal charges if you accept money and wire it to others!

Legitimate make money online opportunities do exist.

After reading about all of the ways you CAN’T make money online working from home, you might think that they aren’t any legitimate business opportunities out there! That’s simply not true. You can achieve your dream and make a good living while doing it. You just have to know where to look!

If you are in the market for a new job or are looking to add another revenue stream then look for companies that offer three things:

  1. Products or services. Steer clear of companies that don’t seem to have products or information that they can send you. They’ll either ask for your email or physical address in order to do so.

  2. A guarantee! Never purchase something from an online retailer that doesn’t offer you a refund if you are unsatisfied in any way. Legitimate businesses always include satisfaction guarantees as part of their offers.

  3. Customer Service people that you can actually speak to. Fly by night companies and scammers don’t want to talk to their victims over the phone or give out their address. If you are ever in doubt call the phone number listed on the website and ask to speak to someone who can give you more details before you buy.  Legitimate companies always employ customer service representatives that are happy to take your calls and answer any questions you may have regarding something you’ve read. If you can’t find a phone number for a company on the letter they sent you there is probably a reason, and it’s not a good one!

I am living proof that it is in fact possible to make boatloads of money online working from home. I generally work from the League of Power offices in Orlando, but that is by my own choice. Lots of people want to replicate my success. Unfortunately there are people out there who take advantage of this and target people who are looking for legitimate business opportunities just to make a quick buck. The good thing is most of these scammers never get rich themselves. They give themselves away, especially when you know what to look out for! Move forward knowing that you are one of the enlightened ones and cannot be scammed!

Good luck!
