When it comes to harping and pontificating about climate change, if there’s anyone more annoying than that Swedish teen Greta Thurman, it has to be a woman old enough to be her great-grandmother—Nancy Pelosi.
Greta Thurman yells at anyone who wants to travel, fly on airplanes, enjoy life, and use any of the world’s natural energy sources. Fortunately, as with most petulant teenagers, we can ignore Greta until she grows out of her angst. Or maybe, some big oil company will send her a multi-million-dollar endowment in the name of green energy and relegate her to the sidelines, while she mellows a bit—you know, like Al Sharpton—and allow the rest of us to get on with our lives.
Nancy Pelosi? Not so much. Nancy succeeds in the annoying category, while, at the same time, is the poster gal for hypocrisy. During her junket at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, last November, Pelosi waxed ecumenical and said her tackling the climate crisis was a “religious thing.”
Said Nancy, “I believe this is God’s creation, and we have a moral obligation to be good stewards.”
…after which she boarded another carbon-emitting jet and asked another steward to be a good fellow and fetch her a refreshment.
Pelosi’s views on abortion, however, don’t match her “moral obligation” criteria. Like most liberals, she uses the term “women’s reproductive health” as the rationalization for abortion. She has told leaders of the Catholic Church that she believes that “God gave us free will.” Aren’t unborn children God’s creations as well?
Returning to Pelosi’s attack on climate change, here are two other views on China that seem to be at odds with each other:
“With their military aggression in the South China Sea, with their continuation of genocide with the Uyghurs in Xinjiang province, … with their suppression of democracy in Hong Kong and other parts of China as well – they’re just getting worse in terms of suppression.”
Wow, pretty strong stuff, and very true. But….
“Having said all of that… we have to work together on climate. Climate is an overriding issue…”
According to Pelosi, cleaning up the air in Shanghai is more important than stopping genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
Yeah, we get it. No one tells the Chicoms how to run their quarter of the planet. They will stop dumping carbon dioxide as soon as it is in their interests to do so. The descendants of Chairman Mao aren’t interested in listening to an octogenarian American politician who utters conflicting, weak sauce aphorisms.
In the meantime, our Speaker of the House seems to be oblivious of one fact: You can’t fight carbon emissions and travel thousands of miles on polluting private jets. She has been called out for spending almost $68,000 on private air travel right before she headed for the Glasgow summit.
Apparently, Nancy is emulating the equally clueless John Kerry—our equally hypocritical Climate Czar—whose family private jet dumped about 116 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the high atmosphere in a single year.
