Tucker Carlson of Fox News teased his viewers for the first few days this week. He’s in Hungary for some reason and didn’t start really explaining why until about Wednesday. I immediately knew why he was there, because I’ve been occasionally writing about Hungary since 2019. It’s one of the few nations on earth where their elected leaders actually care about their own people. Imagine if every Republican in Congress had fought for Donald Trump’s America First policies. That’s what Hungary’s government has been like since Viktor Orban was elected Prime Minister there in 2010.

Hungary was facing many of the same problems that led to the election of Donald Trump in America in 2016: Demographic decline, mass immigration, plummeting birth rates, a collapsing middle class, yadda yadda yadda. That song is probably familiar to you by now if you’re reading this. It’s the same list of problems in basically every nation in Western civilization. Our leaders have sold us out to globalism and our children and grandchildren – for those of us who can even afford to have them – will pay the price.

One of the first major policies that started making a difference in Hungary was related to immigration. If you want to raise the salaries, quality of life and standard of living of people from your own country, restricting immigration is absolutely necessary. Travel is easier and cheaper than ever before, so you can’t just let any bum who shows up at your doorstep move in!

When Angela Merkel of Germany invited the entire Islamic world to move into Europe in 2015, they started coming. Millions of fighting-aged warriors from Syria to Pakistan to Africa started making the trek. Hungary quickly erected a border fence topped with razor wire and started patrolling their border. No one got in, and no one gets into Hungary to this day. Hungary is for Hungarians, and because the nation has problems of its own, it’s not going to be a charity basket for the rest of the world.

Salaries in Hungary are rising today, just as they rose in America when Donald Trump trimmed our refugee admissions to near zero and cut illegal immigration to basically zero by enforcing our own laws. Only leaders who hate the citizens of their own nation would ever allow their international borders to be erased.

Hungary then passed some really amazing pro-family tax policies in 2019. These policies were designed to reduce single motherhood, to encourage marriage, and to encourage young married couples to have lots of baby Hungarians. Is that even possible? It sure is! You just have to care enough about your own people and get creative – which is what Orban and his “far right” party did.

Encouraging single motherhood has catastrophic long-term effects on a nation. Just look around America! How’s that working out for us? 94% of our prison population today consists of people who were raised by single mothers, with no father in the home. 26 of the 27 largest mass shootings in America were carried out by men who were raised by single mothers. I could go on and on, but everyone knows that single motherhood is awful for the mothers, the kids, and the nation that has to financially support them.

To overcome that problem, Hungary incentivized marriage and rearing children within that marriage. Imagine that! In 2019, the country started a government-backed loan program for newly married couples. They could get a low-interest loan for $33,000. As soon as that young couple has two kids, $11,000 of the loan is forgiven. Once they have three kids, the loan is forgiven completely.

The marriage rate in Hungary increased by 30% in 2019, after that loan program went into effect. And if a married woman in Hungary has four children, she never pays income tax again for the rest of her life.

Tucker Carlson is in Hungary this week to highlight those pro-Hungarian, pro-family policies – because those policies could work in America as well. They seem to be good ideas that are working. The quality of life of Hungarians is improving, their birth rates are up, and the people are happy.

Oh, and Tucker is also giving a speech on an international stage in Hungary at the end of the week. I wonder what that’s all about? It’s almost as if he is getting some foreign policy chops under his belt, like he has some sort of big future plans that he hasn’t told us about yet. I wonder what those plans could be?
