After 43 days of being shutdown, eight Democrats crossed the aisle to agree to Republicans spending bill that re-opened the government. Ultimately, Republicans came out on top and Democrats came up empty handed. Democrat leader Chuck Schumer did not get his $1.3 billion as he requested for Obamacare subsidies. Nor did Democrats get any other programs of theirs funded.
We’ve heard a lot about this over the past week since the shutdown ended but today I want to talk about what exactly the Republicans got Democrats to agree to fund for the next few months to years. Some agencies and departments will see big boosts to their bottom line and some won’t see any.
Perhaps the biggest winner of Republicans spending bill is America’s military. The spending bill included a hefty $1 billion boost to their bottom line. When I dug in deeper to the military’s new budget line by line it became apparent the US Air Force would get a huge chunk of that money. Our Air Force is about to get a whole new fleet of strategic bombers and next-generation intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Now, if you’re wondering whether that extra billion is just lining the pockets of defense contractors, think again. This is about replacing Afghanistan War-era relics with cutting-edge machines that can actually do more a whole lot more than just shoot down enemy helicopters and drop bombs. The new strategic bomber will eventually replace the tired B-1s and B-52s, which are so old, they probably qualify for Social Security. And the ICBMs? These babies are designed to keep rogue regimes and saber-rattling strongmen up at night, clutching their pillows.
Let’s not forget the bigger picture here. While China is pumping billions into hypersonic missiles and Russia is doing its best Dr. Evil impersonation with nuclear threats, America can’t afford to be caught with its pants down. And no, Joe Biden’s “strategic patience” isn’t a defense policy — it’s just a fancy way of saying “nap time.”
This funding victory didn’t just fall from the sky. It was the result of tough negotiations, political brinkmanship, and a little bit of Democrat dysfunction. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to play hardball, but let’s be honest, he brought a Nerf bat to a gunfight. According to Republican Senator John Kennedy, one of the chief Senators involved in crafting the spending bill and negotiators during the shutdown, Schumer quickly realized he was in over his head.
Turns out, Schumer’s grip on his own party is about as strong as Joe Biden’s handshake. Eight of his subordinates broke ranks and sided with Republicans to pass their funding deal. A deal that was nearly identical to the one that Republicans offered before the government shutdown. That’s not just a loss; that’s a full-blown mutiny in the SS Donkey.
And according to Senator Kennedy Chuck Schumer wasn’t mad at his fellow Democrats for crossing the aisle and making a deal with Republicans, in fact, Kennedy was sure Schumer was relieved.
The result? Republicans secured funding for critical defense modernization while Democrats got… well, a lesson in leadership and a reminder that not everyone in their party is on board with their woke wish list. While some on the left continue to fantasize about defunding the military and replacing it with interpretive dance squads, adults in the room made sure America stays locked and loaded.
It’s also a major blow to the Obama-Biden legacy of military neglect. Remember sequestration? That brainchild of the Obama years gutted our defense capabilities and left us scrambling to catch up. Under Trump’s leadership — and now continued under a Republican-led Congress — we’re finally undoing that damage and putting America’s security first.
So next time someone tells you Republicans don’t care about the people, remind them who just secured a billion-dollar investment in keeping Americans safe while the Democrats were busy arguing over climate reparations and pronouns.
And for the inside scoop on how this deal really went down, don’t miss Republican Senator John Kennedy’s must-watch breakdown. He spills the tea — and probably a little bourbon — on what led to the shutdown, why Schumer looked like a deer in headlights, and how those eight Democrats jumping ship may have saved Chuck from a full-on political meltdown. If you’ve never heard Congress’ funniest member speak you’re in for a real treat with his story telling.
