President Trump Launches Plan to Ensure 2026 Midterms ‘Too Big to Rig’

Greenville, S.C., USA - October 15 2020: Donald Trump walking outdoors, raising his fist in a gesture of triumph

President Donald Trump has accomplished so much for the American people during his second term that it’s impossible to cover all the victories at once. From tariffs to tax cuts to mass deportations, it almost makes your head spin. Despite all those massive wins, we can’t help but feel like the clock is ticking in the background. You feel it, don’t you? The 2026 midterm elections are just 14 months away. If the Democrats gain control of the House next year, we’ll be subjected to two years of fake impeachments and limited progress.

President Trump is obviously aware of this. It’s what happened in 2018. Neither one of the fake impeachments that happened in 2019 or 2021 would have occurred if the Paul Ryan wing of the GOP had wanted to maintain control of the House.

Fortunately, a growing number of House Republicans are discovering that it’s fun to win. They are slowly but surely learning how to wield power effectively. They’re realizing that being in office but not being in power with a majority sucks.

Trump is working overtime to keep up the momentum throughout his historic second term. Republicans are finally taking a cue from Democrats and gerrymandering their states to eliminate political representation for their opponents. Texas now has five new GOP congressional districts starting next year. Indiana, Ohio, and other states may soon follow suit. If 40% of Republican voters in Massachusetts get no congressional representation, why should 12% of Democrat voters in Kentucky have any?

The president had another one of his flashes of brilliance last week and called up House Speaker Mike Johnson with an idea.

“Mike, I got a great idea,” he said. “How about a midterm convention?”

Trump added that a midterm convention had “never been done before.”

It’s the sort of great idea that the president comes up with all the time that makes everyone smack their forehead. Why didn’t anyone think of that before?

Johnson instantly loved the idea and it has spread like wildfire through most House Republicans. It sounds like the convention idea is already a “done deal.” The next step will simply be to pick a venue, which will likely be in a red state with a lot of House races that could swing either way.

Choosing a list of speakers will also be key. The whole point of the conventions during a presidential election year (aside from nominating the president and announcing the VP choice) is to keep voters fired up and motivated to cast their ballots.

Think back to the incredible 2024 GOP convention and the lineup of speakers at it. The speakers included not only President Trump and JD Vance, but also Tucker Carlson, Dana White, Franklin Graham, and 16-year-old Kai Trump. The convention was the last major public appearance of the great Hulk Hogan—and it was electric!

For better or worse, part of Trump’s problem right now is GOP voters. I include myself in those ranks. We get lazy during primaries and midterm elections. That’s just a fact. Our turnout is dismal and then we walk around complaining about the Democrats taking over despite having such crazy and unpopular policies.

A concrete example of this challenge just happened in Iowa a few days ago. There was a special election to fill the seat in Senate District 1.

Last year, Donald Trump won Senate District 1 in Iowa. The vote was 22,900 votes for Trump and 18,300 votes for the Drunk Sorority Girl. It’s a historically Republican district.

On August 26th, Democrat candidate Catelyn Drey defeated Republican Christopher Prosch. Drey’s victory broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate. Republicans have held that district for most of the past 20 years, and for the past 12 years consecutively.

The vote was 4,208 for Drey and 3,411 for Prosch.

19,489 Republican voters who turned out for President Trump ten months ago didn’t vote in that special election a few days ago.

If just 800 Republican voters had gotten off their lazy fat butts, the GOP would still hold that seat. Pardon my French.

That’s the risk that we face in the 2026 midterms. We cannot be complacent. We cannot think, “Well, everything is going great and Trump is doing amazing things, so I’ll just sit this election out and won’t take the time to vote.”

A midterm convention is a great idea to rally the voters, but the real work is up to you and me. We’re the ones who have to come through for Donald Trump again. We cannot sit the 2026 midterms out.
