Even Mexican Politicians Abuse Our Insane Anchor Baby Policy

The popular Governor of Baja, Mexico managed to infuriate her own voters a few days ago. And before you ask, no, she did not impose some stupid new COVID restrictions on her citizens and then fly to Florida for a vacation. Instead, she flew to Brawley, California while she just so happened to be eight-and-a-half months pregnant and stayed until after she had given birth to a dual citizenship anchor baby. Chinese generals and CCP officials have been sending their wives over here for “birthing vacations” for years, so I guess it shouldn’t surprise us that Mexican elites are gaming our insanely broken system in the same way.

Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda is a wildly popular politician in Mexico. She’s enjoyed a meteoric rise up the food chain in Mexico, and she’s done it the old-fashioned way: By winning elections. She’s young, attractive, well-spoken and connects to voters. They like her a lot.

In 2018, Avila Olmeda was elected as the Deputy of Baja, Mexico. That’s the closest thing they have in the Mexican government to our Representatives in the House. She resigned after just six months on the job so she could run for Mayor of Mexicali. She won that race in 2019. In 2021, she ran for Governor of Baja. At age 35, she became the youngest-ever Governor of Baja and the first woman to be elected to that position.

When the Governor went back to Baja after her trip to Brawley, California, she surprised everyone by announcing the birth of her son, Diego Jose Torres Avila – who just so happens to now have dual citizenship between the US and Mexico! Avila Olmeda is suddenly drawing criticism from both sides of the border for this stunt.

Amazingly, this was not the first time that Avila Olmeda has flown to Brawley, CA for a vacation and came back home with a newborn under her arm. Back before she went into politics, she gave birth to her first daughter in 2016 in Brawley.

Maria Diaz, an immigration employee for the Mexican government in Tijuana, lambasted the governor for giving birth to her kids on US soil:

“What Avila Olmeda did, that is seen as ultra-elitist. She can try and claim the hospitals are better or there is less crime in California, but we all know the real reason.”

“When wealthier people do it, it’s almost entirely for the reason of giving them a head start in life. You don’t need visas to get to good colleges in California with U.S. citizenship, and they can afford the dual taxes. If anything, we see this as benefiting the U.S. because of all the money wealthier Mexicans and their children put back into the U.S. rather than in Mexico.”

So, Mexicans who have no wish to immigrate to the US and Americans alike hold our anchor baby policy in disdain. It hurts both of our countries. Why do we even have a “birthright citizenship” policy in this country, when virtually no other civilized nation on earth allows this concept to exist?

We got really, really lucky somehow!

No Congress has ever passed an anchor baby bill. No president ever signed an anchor baby bill into law. There’s never been an executive order authorizing instant citizenship to the babies of illegal aliens. No holy tablet was ever found in the woods saying, “Grant citizenship to the babies of anyone who wins a game of Red Rover with the Border Patrol!”

So again, why? Why, why, why do we still have this policy that allows elite Mexican politicians to exploit our country?

In a 1982 Supreme Court case, Justice William Brennan included a footnote in a ruling that said, “No plausible distinction… can be drawn between resident aliens whose entry into the United States was lawful, and resident aliens whose entry was unlawful.”

And just like that, America has been saddled with the anchor baby problem ever since. A Supreme Court Justice admitted on paper that he’s too dumb to tell the difference between legal and illegal aliens. (Call me crazy, but… maybe check to see if they have any immigration paperwork? That could be one plausible distinction.)

We don’t even have hard numbers yet on how many pregnant illegal aliens Joe Biden allowed into the country in 2021. But every single one of them gave birth to an “American citizen” and it is now impossible to ever deport them.
