Tuesday was a historic day in America. For the first time since the founding of this republic, a Speaker of the House was kicked out of his job by Congress. The final vote was 216 in favor of vacating the Speaker’s chair, with 210 opposed.

The media keeps claiming that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) “joined with Democrats” to oust McCarthy. That’s exactly the opposite. The Democrats were the useful idiots who helped Matt Gaetz do the will of the American people. Eight Republicans and every Democrat voted to give Kevin McCarthy the Liz Cheney treatment, and it somehow worked.

Imagine getting married to someone and then they break every single one of their marriage vows against you. Would you then turn around and praise your spouse for being so great at marriage? Would you tell everyone, “Things are going great!” as your spouse was texting you pictures of themselves in bed with your best friend?

That’s what almost every Republican in Congress did this week when they voted in support of keeping Kevin McCarthy in the Speaker role. Kevin McCarthy broke every single one of his vows to the MAGA wing of the party. Matt Gaetz and seven other Republicans decided they’d had enough of the battered wife syndrome and divorced him.

Kevin McCarthy promised single-subject spending bills if only the MAGA Republicans in the House would vote for him as Speaker back in January. Didn’t happen. He promised to defund Biden’s 87,000 new IRS agents. Didn’t happen. He promised an actual budget. Didn’t happen. He promised to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas for throwing the southern border open. Any day now, Kevin!

How’s that Parent’s Bill of Rights that McCarthy promised coming along? Or the bill that McCarthy promised that would define sex solely on how a person was born? McCarthy also promised to end proxy voting in the House, which Nancy Pelosi introduced during the pandemic. Irony of ironies—one Republican who voted to keep McCarthy in office, voted for him BY PROXY!

The seeds for booting an establishment, business-as-usual, swamp creature like Kevin McCarthy were planted long ago.

A large, bipartisan majority of 72% of Americans was opposed to Obamacare when it was rammed through Congress in 2009. In 2010, that was the single issue that Republicans campaigned on for the midterms. They told Republican voters, if you just give us control of the House, we’ll control the purse strings, and we will defund Obamacare.

The voters delivered a slaughter against the Democrats’ majority in the House. We flipped 67 seats and the Republican establishment proceed to NOT defund Obamacare.

In 2012, they told us if we help them keep control of the House and gain a few Senate seats, then they would get rid of Obamacare. Democrats had a 60-40 majority in the Senate at that time. The voters flipped six Senate seats to Republicans and kept control of the House. The Republican establishment then sat on its hands for two more years and didn’t get rid of Obamacare.

In 2014, they told us that if the voters would just give them control of the House and the Senate, Obamacare was doomed. We delivered. We kept Republicans in control of the House, and Mitch McConnell became the new Senate Majority Leader. The Republicans then spent two years NOT repealing Obamacare.

In 2016, they told us that if we keep them in charge of the House AND the Senate, AND win the White House for them, they’d totally get rid of Obamacare once and for all. Amazingly, we pulled it off again and shocked the world by sending Donald J. Trump to the White House.

They promised and promised and promised to do what We the People wanted, and we delivered every time. They never upheld their end of the bargain.

Kevin McCarthy is the living embodiment of that disconnect. McCarthy wouldn’t even impeach Joe Biden. He launched an “inquiry” to hold some meetings to determine whether the House should impeach Joe Biden for taking $50 million in bribes from China and other countries.

Matt Gaetz just sent a resounding message to the establishment, and they hate him for it. This cycle of lying to the voters doesn’t cut it anymore. We were promised results in exchange for our votes—and we demand those results. Otherwise, the establishment Republicans need to get out of our way.
