Florida leaders announced their recommendation that healthy children do not need to get the COVID vaccine this week. During a roundtable meeting with medical experts, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Lapado advised parents against vaccinating their child if they are fit and healthy.
“The Florida Department of Health is going to be the first state to officially recommend against the COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children,” Dr. Ladapo said.
“We’re kind of scraping at the bottom of the barrel, particularly with healthy kids, in terms of actually being able to quantify with any accuracy and any confidence the even potential of benefit.”
Gov. DeSantis added later that the state’s roundtable came to the conclusion that there is “very little benefit” to vaccinating healthy children.
“If you look at teenage boys between 13 and 18 there’s been an increased signal for things like myocarditis,” DeSantis told reporters during a press conference. “You know one of the studies that was looked at to approve the Pfizer vaccine for young people found no hospitalization and death in the vaccine arm, which is good – but they found no hospitalization and death in the placebo arm either!”
DeSantis also stated that the CDC constantly changes directives with mask rules and it has unsurprisingly caused the institution to lose credibility with the American people.
“CDC with all due respect, they have not followed the science,” the governor said. “Throughout all this they’ve done a lot of political science. They’ve changed the guidance in like the last week or two with no change in underlying data – they just did it more for political purposes. And so… we are not just going to follow the CDC in the state of Florida.
“I think a lot of people have lost confidence in the CDC,” he added, “and I think that’s a huge majority of Americans that have lost confidence. So it doesn’t mean because they say it we won’t do it; we’re going to do it on our own, but clearly the fact that they say to do it is not going to be enough. We’re going to do our own stuff.”
Florida has become the very first state to implement this recommendation. Florida has also had some the best policies in regards to covid restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic.
In December 2020, DeSantis was trail blazing by being one of the few Governors that used common sense. On lockdowns he said:
“The lie of the lockdown was that if you just locked down, then you can beat the virus,” he said. “Then why are people having to lockdown two or three times then?”
Governor DeSantis was also not a fan of masks and mandates.
“I’m opposed to mandates, period. I don’t think they work,” he said. “People in Florida wear them when they go out. I don’t think you have to be strung up by a bayonet to do it.”
Hopefully this will be the first of many who join Florida. Pfizer has already admitted that the COVID vaccine is dangerous for children, pregnant women and babies. It would only be prudent if others follow suit.
