Democrats Turn on Schumer in Major Leadership Revolt

Chuck Schumer is having a rough week, and by “rough” we mean the kind of political beatdown that makes a piñata at a toddler’s birthday party look like it got off easy. After a government shutdown that dragged on longer than a Kamala Harris book tour, Democrats are now turning on their own Senate Minority Leader like he just served tofu at a Texas barbecue.

In a dramatic twist of political theater—which, let’s be honest, is all the Democrats seem to be good at these days—eight senators broke ranks and joined Republicans to push forward a deal to end the month-long shutdown. That includes seven Democrats and one independent, Sen. Angus King, who caucuses with Democrats but apparently still has a working brain cell or two. Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer, the man who thought he could lead the opposition, voted against the deal—yet still got roasted by his party members like a Thanksgiving turkey.

And the knives are out. California Rep. Ro Khanna took to X to declare, “Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced.” Ouch. That’s the kind of vote of confidence that usually precedes a resignation or at least a very awkward lunch with party leaders. Khanna added, “If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?” Probably his Senate parking spot at this rate.

Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin didn’t hold back either, accusing Schumer of screwing over the Democratic Party with a “terrible deal” and sarcastically calling him a “profile of scourge.” That’s political code for “we’re done with this guy.” And then there’s Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, who clearly couldn’t wait to pile on. “Maybe now Sen. Ed Markey will finally join me in pledging not to vote for Schumer?” Translation: Chuck’s got fewer friends than a vegan at a rodeo.

Even Rep. Mike Levin chimed in, saying, “Chuck Schumer has not met this moment and Senate Democrats would be wise to move on from his leadership.” When your own party starts sounding like your LinkedIn connections after a layoff, you know the end is near.

Let’s be clear about what’s happening here. This isn’t just a leadership crisis. This is a full-blown Democratic meltdown. It’s like watching a soap opera if everyone in it were allergic to accountability. While President Donald Trump is actually running the country, securing the border, revving up the economy, and reining in D.C. dysfunction, the Democrats are over here playing musical chairs with their leadership—without any chairs.

And let’s not forget the usual suspects in the peanut gallery. The Nazi tattoo having Graham Platner, a Democrat trying to unseat GOP Sen. Susan Collins in Maine, and Saikat Chakrabarti, who is AOC’s former staff member, and who is gunning for Nancy Pelosi’s seat, are also calling for Schumer’s head on a silver platter. Zero experience, zero results, but plenty of outrage—it’s the modern Democrat résumé.

As for Schumer, he’s still clinging to the old talking points. “Democrats have been fighting for months to address America’s healthcare crisis,” he posted on X. “We will keep fighting.” Sure, Chuck. You keep fighting, putting band aids on gaping wounds. Your subsidies do nothing to address the out of control rise in healthcare costs since the inception of Obamacare 10 years ago.  Meanwhile, Americans are still footing the bill for your political theater while you get dunked on by your own squad.

At the end of the day, Democrats can’t agree on a shutdown deal, can’t agree on healthcare, can’t agree on leadership, and apparently can’t agree on anything except that Chuck Schumer is their new fall guy. It’s the kind of implosion that makes you wonder if even Obama is watching this mess and thinking, “Wow, I thought I was bad at foreign policy.”

Now, while Schumer polishes his resume and updates his LinkedIn to “former Senate leader and current scapegoat,” Republicans are hopefully gathering to talk about how to lower healthcare costs. President Trump posted on Truth Social one idea that’s going viral. He supports giving healthcare subsidies to the American people directly, rather than to the greedy healthcare companies. This way insurance companies would be forced to compete for Americans dollars and hopefully offer better deals.
