Welcome to March (I know I’m a day early). This month the ground begins to thaw, little green sprouts begin to appear, temperatures start to rise and we emerge from our winter doldrums. Most of us associate March with the beginning of spring even though we’re still pretty likely to get another winter dusting or two.
This month that can’t quite decide whether its winter or spring, is glorious for another reason as well. Bargains. Plenty of good deals emerge in March. As you know timing is important when looking for a good deal. There’s a best time to buy everything, and March is a great month to stock up and get the best bargains on quite a few items. Below are ten items that you can buy super cheap right now!

The Lazy Secret
I’m always looking for the easiest ways to do stuff. Some people call that being “lazy”.
If that’s true, then here’s a true “lazy” way to success…

End of season winter gear
The end of any season is a great time to find bargains. Look for winter related clothing and sporting goods for good deals. Sales on winter coats, gloves, scarves, and boots have been in full effect since about January. By now the selection is probably pretty picked over, but if you can find something in your size and style snatch it up and store it for next year. The first two weeks of March are the last time you’ll see great bargains on this stuff for a whole year.
March is also a great time to buy winter sports equipment. Ski slopes are going to begin closing their doors here shortly so you’ll find great deals on snowboards, ski gear, ice skates. If your son plays a winter sport like hockey or football now is the time to get the best deals on their gear for next year.
Check out your local hardware store for great deals on winter supplies. Items like snow blowers, snow shovels, salt, and other winter accessories are put on sale to make room for spring gardening tools.
Luggage
Luggage retailers sell most of their inventory in the summer and winter, the peak travel times. March is that odd, in between time when demand is low, so retailers slash prices to drum up sales. Look for great deals on last year’s styles, new inventory arrives in April and May so stock up while the getting is good!
Boats
March is the tail end of the winter boat show season. This time represents a lull for boat dealers. If you wait till the end of March, after all the shows are over, you’ll catch many dealers desperate to make a sale to tide them over till the summer when sales start to pick up again.
Frozen Foods
I could barely believe this one myself, it’s so odd. For some reason, March is National Frozen Food Month. Grocery stores run lots of sales all month long on frozen foods. Look for coupons and special promotions to stock up your freezer with until April, when farmers bring their harvests to stores. If you’re wondering how long your frozen food will last click here.
Air Conditioners
Wall units and fans are at their cheapest this time of year because there is absolutely no demand for these items. The selection will be limited because it will be all of last summer’s inventory that retailers failed to sell, but really, there hasn’t been much change in technology so last year’s models should be just fine. Jump on this one quick though, because as temperatures start to rise, so will prices!
China and Utensils
Most people buy new plates and silverware for Christmas or weddings. March represents a time smack dab in the middle of those two high demand seasons which makes retailers slash prices. Take advantage of sales and low prices before wedding season starts up again!
Gifts for women
The two most popular gifts for women are jewelry and perfume. Retailers sell most of their jewelry and perfume stock for Christmas and Valentine’s Day, so with no big holidays on the horizon right now till the end of May (Mother’s Day), they offer big discounts and slash prices to entice customers. Keep an eye out for clearance sales at the big, mall anchor stores for deals on these two items.
Home Renovations
Winter is a slow time for contractors. Most people aren’t building and remodeling while there is snow on the ground. March represents the last month of the winter season to score a good deal on any renovation or repairs that require a contractor. As the ground thaws though, contractors begin to book up quickly and stop offering discounts to customers so jump on this deal now.
Home Entertainment
March is the last month you’ll find good deals at retailers looking to make room on their shelves for next year’s models, which debut in the spring. DVD and Blu-ray players, digital cameras, televisions, hand-held video cameras and other small electronics are on sale in March, you’ll just be buying 2011 models instead of 2012 ones.
Video games seem to be on sale a lot too this time of year. Most people buy them as presents for Christmas so after the holiday season, prices decline steadily.
Candles
Each season brings out new fragrances from candle companies. In March you’ll start to see candles debut with lighter, floral scents. If you don’t mind heavier, wintery scents like cinnamon, evergreen, apple pie, pumpkin, and spices, then you’ll find great deals on candles right now. Look in clearance sections of stores to take advantage of the discounted fragrances.
Enjoy all the great bargains this month!
