Trump’s New Census Order Could Wipe Out Democrats’ Grip on Power

President Trump just fired a direct shot at one of the Democrats’ longest-running power grabs—and if it hits, it could dismantle their Electoral College firewall and cost them dozens of seats in Congress.

In a Thursday morning post on Truth Social, Trump announced that he has already ordered the Department of Commerce to begin work on a new U.S. census—this time, one that counts only American citizens.

“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,” Trump wrote. “People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS.”

It’s not a suggestion. It’s an order—and it’s happening.

The plan would correct what Trump calls the “massively flawed” 2020 census, which counted illegal aliens and handed Democrat-run states—and their sanctuary city machines—a wildly disproportionate amount of representation in both Congress and the Electoral College.

Here’s why that matters: the census determines how House seats and Electoral College votes are divided. And right now, it doesn’t matter whether someone is a U.S. citizen or in the country illegally—if they’re physically present in a state, they’re counted. That bloated count gives sanctuary states more political clout than they deserve. And it’s by design.

Thirteen states currently have statewide sanctuary policies, including California, Illinois, New York, and Washington. Eleven of those are run top-to-bottom by Democrats. They’ve created de facto welcome mats for illegal immigrants—not out of compassion, but out of strategy.

More illegal immigrants means more people counted in blue states. More people counted means more House seats and Electoral College votes. That’s how Democrats rig the map.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, blue states that benefit from this distorted headcount could lose 20 to 30 congressional seats if non-citizens are excluded from the tally. Those seats wouldn’t just vanish—they’d be reallocated to states like Florida, Texas, and others where Republicans dominate.

The political math is staggering. A 30-seat loss for Democrats could translate into a 60-seat swing in the House. In an era where control can come down to a few votes, that shift would remake Congress—and likely end any chance of Democrats retaking power for a generation.

Same goes for the Electoral College. If citizenship—not raw population—is the standard for representation, Republicans could pick up 20 or more electoral votes, slamming the door on Democrats’ illegal path to the White House.

This isn’t just policy—it’s strategy. And it strikes at the very foundation of the Democrats’ federal power structure.

The left is already melting down over the announcement, and for good reason: if Trump’s order stands, it could effectively dismantle their sanctuary state advantage and redraw the balance of political power in America—permanently.

Republican-led states are already showing they’re willing to fight. With aggressive legal challenges to Democrat gerrymandering and state-level pushback on illegal immigration, the map is shifting—and fast.

This census is more than a headcount. It’s a political earthquake.
