It’s been just over one year since a combination of greed, incompetence, and failure on the part of California Governor Gavin Newsom burned down over 16,000 structures in Los Angeles County. That included 11,600 homes and over 4,000 garages, commercial buildings, backyard sheds, and other structures. One year later, eleven (11) structures have been rebuilt. Following Newsom’s blazing success rate at rebuilding 0.000948% of the lost homes and businesses, President Donald Trump is taking over the rebuilding project.
In some very welcome news for Pacific Palisades families who lost their homes, Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to have his administration take control.
“I want to see if we can take over the city and state and just give the people their permits they want to build,” Trump said during the signing.
A full year after Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass promised to move quickly to rebuild everyone’s homes, fewer than 1,500 families have even received their permits to start rebuilding. Trump’s order will preempt the insane rules passed by California’s environmentalist wacko leaders, so that people can rebuild.
One of Trump’s first actions as president was to tour the damage in Pacific Palisades last January with First Lady Melania. All the electric cars and other things that got torched left a massive toxic waste cleanup in the way, before people could begin removing debris.
One of the first things Trump did was direct his new Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Lee Zeldin, to carry out the environmental cleanup. Trump gave him 30 days. Zeldin completed the project in 28 days.
That opened things up for Phase 2, so families could quickly start debris removal. Newsom and Mayor Bass then announced that the process of clearing debris would likely take six months to a year. Trump swooped in again and the debris cleanup happened in just six weeks.
“I really think that the federal government has shown their ability to expedite everything,” said Nina Madok, whose home was burned down in Pacific Palisades by Gavin Newsom’s incompetence. “They need to, again, do what the EPA did. Throw bodies at it. Get more people involved. They have the people to do it.”
Trump’s order directs FEMA and the Small Business Administration to immediately issue regulations that preempt all California and Los Angeles County regulations on permitting requirements. He’s also allowing builders to self-certify to a federal agency that they’re following health and safety codes in the rebuilding. Any federal requirements related to the rebuilding are to be expedited as quickly as possible.
The federal government also gave out grants to families who lost their homes. Unfortunately for them, the funds were disbursed to the State of California. Much of the money is still sitting in state accounts collecting interest while the families languish. California’s bureaucracy is too incompetent and slow to get anything done.
Gavin Newsom’s spokeswoman responded to Trump’s executive order by referring to the President of the United States as “an old clueless idiot.” This is Newsom’s new spokeswoman, not to be confused with the previous one, who was recently indicted on corruption and embezzlement charges. Lot of turnover in Newsom’s office!
This story in Pacific Palisades is critically important. Despite his raging incompetence and vanity, Gavin Newsom is somehow the frontrunner among Democrats in the 2028 primary. In the latest numbers from Interactive Polls, he’s leading Kamala Harris by six points among overall Democrat voters. Despite being the worst governor in American history, Gavin Newsom could be the Democrats’ nominee in 2028.
Gavin Newsom has burned California to the ground. He hates his own constituents. He’ll do the same to America if, heaven forbid, he should end up in the White House.
President Donald Trump, by contrast, genuinely loves the American people. He just wants the families who lost their homes in Pacific Palisades to be able to rebuild and get back to a normal life. And they’re not even his constituents!
In the five voting precincts in Pacific Palisades, 71% of the vote went to Kamala Harris in 2024. That doesn’t matter to Trump. He’s here to help even the California liberals who hate him. There’s never been a clearer contrast between Republican and Democrat leadership styles. People should remember that when 2028 rolls around.
