Chuck Schumer just proved that when Democrats say “never let a crisis go to waste,” they apparently mean “never let a mass shooting interrupt your football fandom.” In a jaw-dropping moment that even CNN would struggle to spin, the Senate Minority Leader opened a press conference about two tragic mass shootings with—wait for it—a shoutout to the Buffalo Bills.
Yes, really.
The man who wants to lecture Americans on “gun violence” kicked things off by cheering on his team for beating the Patriots. Because, you know, that’s what grieving families really need right now: a reminder that Chuck’s fantasy league is intact.
In a press conference that should have been somber and focused on the horrors unfolding in both Rhode Island and Sydney, Schumer decided it was time for some tailgate talk. “First of course, as I always say, no matter what, go Bills, they beat the Patriots today, it’s a big deal,” Schumer said, smiling like he’d just solved inflation.

15 people, including a 10-year-old girl, were gunned down at a Chanukah celebration in Australia. Another shooting rocked Brown University. But before discussing any of that, the Senate’s top Democrat was more interested in recapping Sunday’s NFL scores. And only after his victory lap did he finally get around to the bloodshed, saying, “These sickening events have become far too normal in our world. We must do more to stop gun violence.”
Sure, Chuck. But maybe start by pretending to care before launching into another round of gun control talking points. Because if there’s one thing Democrats are consistent on, it’s exploiting tragedy for political gain while showing all the emotional sensitivity of a DMV waiting room.
Conservatives and independents alike were stunned by the tone-deaf display. Radio host Nino Chavez summed it up perfectly: “Chuck Schumer reminds us that it definitely isn’t just Trump that says cringeworthy stuff at inappropriate times.” Ouch. Even Alec Lace, known for his fatherhood podcast and conservative commentary, didn’t hold back, calling the remarks “tone deaf.”

And then there’s David Harris, a prominent Jewish leader, who asked the million-dollar question: why was a football game more important than a massacre of Jewish civilians? Harris posted on X, demanding to know how a man who is himself Jewish could prioritize sports over solidarity with victims of antisemitic violence.
One X user, @KathleenWood730, captured the sentiment of many Americans, writing, “How can Chuck Schumer begin a speech about the Bondi Beach mass shooting with a Bills chant? So callous. So tone-deaf. So unfunny.” She followed up: “How is his first instinct not grief and empathy for Jewish victims and their loved ones?”
Let’s call this what it is: the collapse of moral seriousness in the Democratic Party. When tragedy strikes, the Left’s instinct is to virtue signal, push their political agenda, and then maybe—just maybe—express a little bit of sympathy if the optics demand it. But when you open a press conference about mass murder with “Go Bills,” you’re not just reading the room wrong. You’re burning the whole room down and dancing in the ashes.
This is the same party that spent four years calling Trump “unpresidential” for tweeting in ALL CAPS. Now their Senate leader can’t even fake solemnity for five seconds before devolving into a sideline reporter. If this is what passes for Democratic leadership in 2025, then God help us all.
While President Trump continues cleaning up the mess he inherited from the Biden years, Democrats like Schumer are making clear they’re still stuck in la-la land—where football scores matter more than human lives, and political theater trumps compassion every time.
