Debunking the Latest Climate Change Lies

AOC Green New DealIt feels like global warming has been shrinking as an issue. Sure, radical Democrats released their Green New Deal, but it barely discussed climate change at all. Mostly, it was a sad modernization of the communist manifesto. Besides, not a single Senator voted for it.

Aside from that, it’s been pretty quiet. There are a few reasons for that. One is that the earth hasn’t gotten warmer for quite a while. It’s hard to monger fear when everyone can plainly see that the earth isn’t warming. The other big reason is probably because the U.S. has led the world in slashing greenhouse gas emissions after leaving the Paris agreement. That’s even worse for the narrative.

Not everyone is quiet on the climate front. Climatologists who support the global warming agenda have a lot to lose if they can’t hold our interest. After all, it’s taxpayer funding that puts money in their pockets. That’s why a few scientists are ratcheting up the rhetoric to make sure we don’t forget how scary the global warming bogeyman is. Today, we’re going to be debunking one of these scientists.

The Terror of Permafrost

You might remember the IPCC report that was released last October. The left has been saying that the report spells doom for the planet. According to AOC, it’s proof that we have 12 years left to solve climate change or we’ll all die. These are complete falsifications of the report.

It actually said that climate change is far less severe than earlier reports suggested. According to the October update, dangerous climate change is half as likely as the IPCC postulated in their 2007 assessment. The October report doesn’t claim that doom will be here in 12 years. What it actually said is that doom is at least 12 years farther down the line than they used to think. We’ll circle back to this later.

Piggybacking off of the liberal fearmongering, Thomas Crowther, a professor at ETH Zurich, released a paper of his own. In it, he claims that the melting of arctic permafrost is releasing too much CO2 and other greenhouse gases. This effect is accelerating climate change, and we can already see its impact. He also chastised the IPCC for missing this data in their October report.

The Warming Arctic

Crowther is impressive. He packed a lot of wrong stuff into a single paper, so we’ll have to debunk it in pieces. The first glaring error is his assessment that permafrost is melting faster than before. According to NOAA data, the arctic is in a multi-year period of cooling. This is supported by the fact that glacial ice in Greenland is growing at the fastest rate ever measured. Based on this data, Crowther’s warning of a melting permafrost killing everyone is impossible. The permafrost is in better shape than it was even three years ago.

That’s probably because the entire planet has been cooling for the past four years, and it’s a trend that’s likely to continue for a while. If you want to know more about that, you can look into the impacts of volcanic ash on global temperature trends.

Feedback Loops

The second glaring error in Crowther’s paper is his reference to feedback loops. If you aren’t familiar with this term, it was first introduced by climate scientists in the 70s. The theory is that man-made greenhouse gases will subtly warm the earth. That warming will melt ice and cause other large-scale changes that will accelerate global warming.

Some of the feedback contributors they feared was the permafrost melt cited by Crowther. They also suggested that with less snow on the ground the planet would absorb more heat from the sun. They’re not crazy ideas, but we now have plenty of data to show that feedback loops don’t happen.

CO2 levels hit an “unprecedented” level as far back as 2007. Since then, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has only grown. If feedback loop scenarios were a problem, we should have seen an acceleration in global warming since.

According to researchers, CO2 levels are almost twice as high as they were in the 1950s. Despite that, there has been no runaway temperature increase. In fact, there has been no statistically significant rise in global temperatures since the mid-90s. Also, even as CO2 levels have steadily risen over the last decade, temperatures have dropped in the last 4 years. The empirical evidence is overwhelming. Feedback loop warming is debunked science.

It’s Always Just Around the Corner

Crowther is a run-of-the-mill climate hack. What he’s saying fits the left’s narrative trend we’ve been hearing for over 30 years. It’s perfectly predictable. It’s almost too late to stop climate change. That’s always the case. They tell us we’re about 10 years from disaster with every report.

Why is it always like that? Well, 10 years is a time scale that makes it feel impending and terrifying, but it’s still enough time to try and change our fate — if we give enough money to the people telling us there’s a problem.

It’s a classic scam tactic. The impacts are too far away to clearly dispute with evidence you can clearly see, but there’s not enough time to hesitate. If they can scare you enough, you can ignore reason and follow your impulses.

In the end, though, this always comes back to money. The people telling you we’re in dire straits always ignore the existing solutions. Even if CO2 emissions were a threat to the planet, we’ve had the technology to get rid of those emissions since WWII. Of course, the same people peddling climate change also tell you that nuclear power is too dangerous and a bad solution. Did I say classic scam? No, it’s a sad scam.

It’s entirely possible that the average temperature of the world will increase in the future. It could also get colder (like it’s been doing recently). It’s even possible that human emissions have some small impact on how the climate changes. There’s just too much we don’t know.

What we do know — with great certainty — is that feedback loop models have been consistently wrong for more than 40 years. We also know that anyone who is going to use fear mongering to ask for money is a lowlife and not worth our time.

There are real problems in the world and our country. We need to destroy this climate change nonsense once and for all and start tackling those real issues. Anyone who says otherwise is a scam artist or has fallen victim to one.
